Common warts, flat warts and plantar warts are caused by different strains of the human papillomavirus (HPV) and appear on the hands, face, feet or genitals.
Warts are benign coarse protrusions that appear on the skin when the body is infiltrated by HPV via a cut or skin break. These elevated, skin-toned lumps can occur anywhere on the body, resembling a blister. While they are not harmful, many of our clients at our dermatology clinic, particularly in Wooster, Ohio, opt for their removal due to their transmissible nature and for the simple reason that they don't appreciate these unsightly warts lingering on their skin!
Typically, common warts are discovered on the hands, fingers, around the nails, or on the back of the hands. Plantar warts, found on the soles of the feet, can cause discomfort if left untreated. Flat warts can surface anywhere on the body, while filiform warts, resembling threads, show up on the face.
