What is it?

Alterations in the skin's hue, texture, or sensation that could lead to discomfort or inflammation are often the result of rashes. These changes can be triggered by a variety of psychological elements (such as depression, anxiety, fear, or a traumatic event) and/or environmental factors (including air pollution, food carcinogens, pesticides, lead, and even extended exposure to computer screens). Rashes might also be linked to several conditions like chickenpox, contact dermatitis, eczema, psoriasis, ringworm, and shingles. Lately, we've noticed that some patients have developed rashes in connection with coronavirus infection.

Don't worry, you're not the only one! Rashes are a common occurrence and are likely to affect just about everyone at some point. Fortunately, our board-certified team at our dermatology clinic is here to provide assistance.

The American Academy of Dermatology Association advises that you should seek help from a board-certified dermatologist in Wooster, Ohio if you experience the following:

A widespread rash over most of your body.

A rash that results in blisters, open sores, or raw skin.

The onset of a fever or illness accompanied by a rash.

A rash that spreads rapidly.

A rash causing pain.

A rash affecting the eyes, lips, mouth, or genital area.

How is it treated?

The course of treatment varies based on the nature or origin of the rash. Our treatment strategies include prescribed creams, topical anti-itch solutions (such as hydrocortisone), moisturizers, topical anti-fungal creams, oral medications, oral antihistamines, and light therapy. While certain rashes are more irritating than harmful, some could indicate a more critical condition. If your rash requires attention, make an appointment today with our skilled dermatologists in Wooster, Ohio.
